Senior Women’s Football
Hallam (01.05.23) Vs. Bentleigh (08.08.56) | Hallam Reserve
It felt like an eternity but the wait was finally over. The 2021 season was to commence and we headed down to Hallam for round 1 of the season. We were nervous however I was quietly confident we would get the job done but after such a long absence from football we feared the unknown. We had 5 players playing their 1st game for Bentleigh. These players were Olivia who trained for 2 seasons before making her debut, Grace, Edith, Nicole our recruit from the northern hemisphere and Kate who made the late decision to give footy a go. After a severe injury and years away from the game Alison was also making her comeback so we were a very different looking team to our final game in 2019.
It was a beautiful day and if it wasn't for the gentle breeze the heat would have been an even greater factor but the conditions suited our brand of football so there were no complaints from our side of things. The team address focussed on playing our brand of football, we wanted to keep the ball moving and have a free flowing game and we wanted to avoid playing a congested game. Tilly and Emma Medland were fantastic all day and Christa was awesome in the forward line kicking goals at very important times. Alison, Tara and Emily are this weeks highly rated positional players and they had a lot of competition with Zoe, Shannon and Jordy playing their roles well as well.
Alicia's performance was promising and there were a lot of others that fitted this category but the other 2 this week are Liv who made a very impressive debut and Kate's 1st half also gave us a glimpse that she could be a very good player for the team with games experience. All players who made their debut all showed some promise!
We must not get ahead of ourselves and understand that although Hallam were competitive they are a team ultimately we should put away. Next week Clayton is a similar style team to Hallam, complacency is not an option!
