Bentleigh 1s by Katherine Stanley (VC)
The 1s were excited for Round 1 and keen to kick start the season presenting a united front and show our opposition, Frankston, what a strong pre-season we’ve been working on!
Midcourt championed by Jade, Rika and Chiara gave us steady control of the game and helped to bring the ball down the court. Goalers Brianna and Jen worked tirelessly to secure rebounds and get in front of a tough opposition. A strong defence was executed by Charlotte, Hayley and Katherine and kept scoring opportunities low. We executed a solid first half with Bentleigh trailing by 5 goals at half time. Our communication was impressive, and we were proud to support each other on court. As a new team we are quickly learning how to adapt to how each other play and move on court. The game was competitive, and we feel confident going into the rest of the season. Unfortunately, the final score didn’t reflect the competitive nature of the game and Frankston came up with the win on the day. The 1s are looking forward to getting back to training this week and working on areas for improvement to implement in next week’s game! Final scores: Frankston 31 defeated Bentleigh 14 Coaches notes by Steph Clegg: Our ones came into the game off a great preseason, full of energy and confidence. Although we didn't come away with a win round one, there were many fantastic takeaways and positive signs to work with.
Unfortunately, the 2s had a bye the first round of the season. The team is working well together at training and are excited to take the court next week against Caulfield. Stay tuned!
Bentleigh 3s by Leonie Haggett (VC)
The 3's took to the court feeling pumped and prepared for a win. With the autumn sun shining, the enthusiasm from all players was there from warm up and this positive momentum was carried throughout the entire game.
We had a solid start to the first quarter, GS, Samantha & GA, Bec, worked effectively in the ring & were accurate in their shots. Our mid-court players, Megan, Deb, Sandy and Kaitlin helped bring the ball down from centre pass and were great at feeding into the ring and re-offering.
In defence Leonie and Naomi took on feedback at half time from Coach Liv and this proved helpful as they worked hard on preventing South Yarra goalers from getting close to the ring. At one stage halfway through the final quarter the scores were level, but Bentleigh didn't give up. Their on-courtdetermination right up until the siren was rewarded by a 5-goal win!
Final scores: Bentleigh 35 defeated South Yarra 30.
Coaches Notes by Olivia Scott: The 3s played a very controlled and paced game on Saturday showcasing their individual drives and determination. A very promising start to the season with a 5 point win.
