Netball Round 5 Recap

Bentleigh 1s by Charlotte Conway (C)

The girls started on high, with a very strong first quarter, Jen and Brianna worked brilliantly together to match goals with an even goal by goal score. Brielle kept the goals up during the game.

Centre court Hayley had a fantastic game supporting the attacking end, feeding the ball into the goals, whist intercepting and putting huge pressure on the opposition too.

Wings Rika and Chiara both played an important role in assisting in goals, forcing the ball to be kept in possession of Bentleigh.

In the last quarter Katherine and Charlotte defended hard to keep the ball from being scored, with the winning goal scored by Bentleigh and an awesome win 32 – 30.

Final scores: Bentleigh 32 defeated Springvale District 30

Coaches notes by Steph Clegg: Super proud of every single netballer lifting in intensity this week. After a great week 'on the track' we translated that energy into one win and two honourable losses. Season is looking bright for Bentleigh!

Bentleigh 2s by Kaitlin Gilbert (C)

Going in to our third game for the season, we were up against St Kilda City. We welcomed back Sinead who will now join us for the rest of the season.

Going in to this game we had 2 goals we wanted to achieve: finding our voices and using them, as well being in front of our players and leading at the right time. We did find our voices however we weren’t as loud as planned and will continue to work on this but our positioning has definitely improved and we are coming together well as a team.

Goalers Rachael and Thalia continue to improve together in goals and did a great job, especially with the windy conditions and Rach pushing through sickness.

In mid court attack and defence we had Taryn, Bec, Larissa, Sinead and Kaitlin. All worked tirelessly and put pressure on the opposition through the mid court which resulted in quiet a few turn overs.

Flynn, Ashlee and Bec worked strongly together in defence to keep St Kilda’s lead to a minimum. Going into the last quarter we were down by 6 goals and unfortunately our pressure and determination didn’t reflect the final score. We also want to thank Sarah for supporting and coaching the team and taking the time to come down each week!

Final scores: St Kilda City 33 defeated Bentleigh 23 Coaches notes by Sarah Addis: The twos intensity and attitude was great to see. Some greats steps forward from taking what we worked on in training into the game and some real stand out efforts to leave it all on the court. Very positive signs as they try to find themselves as a team.

Bentleigh 3s by Megan Foley (C)

The thirds were off to a rocky start this Saturday with only six players in the first quarter however continued to fight hard against Cheltenham. This week we welcomed Megan Thomas into our side to help down in the defensive end and to assist Deb with our defensive throw ins. Although this was her second game for the day she proved to be a dominant figure alongside Mikayla and Tara in the defence.

We mixed it up a bit this week by moving Mikayla down into goals to assist Sam. Naomi and Megan were holding the ring strong to back the girls up with their shots and be there as another option. A big thank you to Tara as well for keeping her endurance despite playing football that morning. The scores truly did not reflect how hard the girls worked this week, with a disappointing loss of 12-35.

Thank you to Chelt, we look forward to versing you in the future and we loved the competitive nature you brought to the game. We are keen to secure another win and will work hard at training this week to ensure our next game is a good one! Final scores: Cheltenham 35 defeated Bentleigh 12
