Netball Round 3 Recap

Bentleigh 1s by Katherine Stanley (VC) Saturday was our final grading game on Saturday against Black Rock. All four quarters of the game were hard fought by both sides. We kept our voices loud and communicatedwell to each other on court to work as a team to battle windy conditions. Persistent defence throughout the whole court kept the opposition under pressure. Our highlights included Brianna’s defensive pressure down the court which in turn caused many intercepts. A special mention also goes to Hayley who played a strong game in WD, with her defensive skills causing many ball turn-overs. We were impressed with how the whole team worked together in both attack and defence and the support for each other on court was uplifting! The final quarter was goal-for-goal but unfortunately Black Rock won the game by 1 goal. Although we are disappointed with the result the game showed us that our hard work is paying off. While we still have lots to improve on, we are seeing the benefits of working as a team and we can only go up from here at this early stage of the season. Final scores: Black Rock 31 defeated Bentleigh 30 Coaches notes by Steph Clegg: An amazing effort by the girls who came so close to their first win. Much improved movement down the court and unlucky to be pipped at the post. Bentleigh 2s by Rachel Saunders (VC) After having the week off after Easter everyone was excited to get back into the court. After a late start to the game we were more than ready to start the game. The first quarter was even going into the quarter time break only 1 point down. In goals were Tahlia and Rachael. Both worked hard against very rough and holding defenders. In the modifier the girls worked their way through a fast and organised mid court. Kaitlin and Larissa worked tirelessly in C and WA while Taryn pushed through illness to give a strong half in WD. In defence Ash and Bec worked strongly together in the first half to stop a well organised attack. Flynn joined Ash in defence in the second half and worked together in predicting the movements of the attack. Overall it was a great second game with lots of positives to take forward as a team. Although we didn’t take home the win in our second game for the year, we are excited to see what our team can achieve for the rest of the season. Final scores: Hampton 37 defeated Bentleigh 25 Coaches notes by Sarah Addis: Twos displayed fantastic teamwork yet again in only their second game together. Passing around the circle was a highlight lead by captain Kaitlin Gilbert. Some areas identified to continue to build on at training.

Bentleigh 3s by Megan Foley (C) The thirds took on Doveton this week under some very windy conditions. We welcomed to the side two past players from Bentleigh Sarah Rigney and Bridget Russo. It was great to have some past Bentleigh players come down and support our thirds. Whilst we couldn’t get the win this week we still played until the final siren under some stressful conditions. Sam and Tara persisted through the windy conditions to seal some goals for us. Bridget was a tremendous help through the mid court and provided the girls with some constructive advice to allow our goalers and mid courters to work better with each other. Naomi and Sarah had a tough day down in defence and continued to try get some intercepts in. The final score was 34-14. We look forward to playing Doveton again later in the season. Next game will be against Dingley, stay posted for the time of our game. Final scores: Doveton 34 defeated Bentleigh 14 Coaches Notes by Olivia Scott:  Having a few players out this week meant the game wasn’t in our favour, however each of the girls gave their all and I am stoked to see continued improvement for the team week after week. The end result definitely did not reflect the effort given. We now have our team to beat! Looking Ahead Round 4 game times are TBC while we look forward to Ladies day!
