Netball Round 2 Recap

Bentleigh 1s by Charlotte Conway (C)

This weekend brought the second game of the season the 1’s were ready and raring to go.

Goalers Brielle and Jen worked hard on their first game together, to keep the goals up, rebounding balls fantastically. Midcourt superstar Jade fought hard to feed the ball into the goals, Chiara used space well and assisted to feed the ball into the goalers too.

At half time Bentleigh were down by a few goals but that didn’t stop us putting up a good fight and showing Murrumbeena how much more we had to give. Defenders Rika, Katherine and Charlotte battled as hard as they could to keep the ball from going into the opposition ring.

The game ended strong with Bentleigh winning the last quarter by 6 goals however Murrumbeena proved to be the better team on the day.

Final score: Murrumbeena 49 defeated Bentleigh 29. Coaches notes by Steph Clegg: After a shaky start, the team persevered in hot conditions to close the gap each quarter and eventually win the final quarter in an impressive effort. A game win is next on our list with this newly formed team really starting to gel.

Bentleigh 2s by Kaitlin Gilbert (C)

After having a bye round 1, the 2’s were excited and ready to give it their all and put their pre-season training to the test against the Caulfield Bears.

The coin toss didn’t go our way but the first quarter did, we lead by 1 point going in to the second quarter. Our goalers for the game Rach and Tahlia worked very well together by getting in front of the oppositions tall defenders and using the attackers around the ring to re-offer and get in better positions closer to the ring. Larissa did a great job in WA bringing the ball down the court and positioning herself well around the ring to support the goalers.

In defence Ashlee, Bec and Flynn worked tirelessly to keep pressure on the goalers and tried to keep scoring to a minimum. This showed as at half time the scores were even.Going in to the second half of the game Taryn, Flynn and Kaitlin put a lot of pressure on Caulfield’s centre passes forcing them to pass back.

Unfortunately, Caulfield took the win for the day despite our best efforts. Regardless of the scoreboard it was a great first game and our team work was impressive. We are looking forward to getting back to training after the Easter break and excited for our next game!

Final scores: Caulfield 51 defeated Bentleigh 33

Coaches notes by Steph Clegg: A fabulous first game for the team, winning 2 of 4 quarters and just going down on the final scoreboard. Exciting signs for the team this season!

Bentleigh 3s by Megan Foley (C)

The thirds were all fired up on Saturday and determined to secure their second win against Lyndale. The girls held composure particularly down the defensive end with Leonie and Mikayla utilizing their outer hands for many intercepts as per Liv’s coaching advice.

The mid court was maintained by Naomi, Megan, Sandy and Tara. Determination overruled fatigue towards the end of the game with the girls fighting hard to keep the energy levels high. Deb despite illness, continued to fight hard on the court and made a strong impact with the time she had on court.

Goalers Sam and Tara worked hard to maintain accuracy with their shots. Sandy and Naomi held the ring strong to ensure they were open to re-offering and feeding to allow our goalers to move more freely and create space. The support was high throughout the game with Leonie utilizing her teacher voice to direct the ball throughout the mid court.

The positive attitudes and support the thirds have enlisted as part of their values proved to be successful again by securing a sturdy win against Lyndale. Sadly, Sandy leaves us this week to embark on a journey with her partner across Australia. We wish her the best on her travels, and we will miss her. We hope to reunite with you on the court again soon Sandy! Our next game will be against Doveton on the 27th of April at 1:25pm. Be sure to get down and support the girls! Final scores: Bentleigh 37 defeated Lyndale 25

Coaches Notes by Olivia Scott:

Another well thought out game from the thirds this week. They are already working well together as a team on court and are showing a lot of promise.

Looking Ahead Round 3 will be held 27/04/19. Game times are: Bentleigh 1s VS Black Rock @ 1:25pm Bentleigh 2s VS Hampton @ 1:25pm Bentleigh 3s VS Doveton Eagles @ 1:25pm
