2022 Round 7 Report (Football and Netball)

Seniors

Final Score:

Dingley 20.10-130

Bentleigh 6.9-45

Ross Barlas and James Rath (pictured) made their senior debut. Congratulations to you both!

Development

Heading out to Dingley after a good win we looked to add on another but wasn’t going to be easy with plenty of late outs.

The boys started really well in the first half holding off some early pressure in both the 1st and 2nd quarters to be with in touching distance at half time only trailing by a goal. Unfortunately a 10 minute lapse in concentration cost us heavily as Dingley piled on 4 quick goals to lead by 5. We managed to stem the flow for the rest of the quarter with no more goals kicked.

With a monster challenge ahead we just looked to fight out the game and see what happened. The boys rallied in the last to play some brilliant footy to trim the margin back down to 2 goals with 2 super goals from first gamer Charlie Parkin on the run.

Charlie stood out in his debut kicking 3 for the game, while Snorta returning from injury was solid as ever. Cooper Reed, Maxx black and Josh whittle were also solid down back against a very dangerous Dingley forward line. We move onto next week against Mordi hopefully taking the 4 points.

Highlights: Jacko Meredith first game in a few years, 2 great goals. Solid. Ruck combo of Jack Gava and Matt Bayly giving first use of the footy and plenty of presence around the ground. Keagan Hobbs missing one from 20 out. Jonty Ho relentless attack on footy and opposition . Great use of the switch all game opening up the filed for Jack Brady, Oscar Castellas-Cartwright and Seb Erharter to becoming damaging. Great win boys.

Women

This week the girls were at home playing against Hallam. After loosing our last two games we needed to get back on winning list. Hallam have been a tough opponent over the journey.

In a tight first quarter we managed to keep Hallam to just 2 behinds while we added 1.2.8. We had the majority of the play but just couldn’t score freely.

In the second quarter we played to our strengths and went into half time with a reasonable lead.

Half time

Bent 4.5.29 to Hallam 1.3.9

In a tightly contested third saw us score 1.3 to Hallam 1 straight goal.

3/4 time

Bent 5.7.37 to Hallam 2.3.15

At three quarter time we spoke about playing to our strengths and keep our structure’s. To Hallam’s credit they hunted the ball in numbers and made the last quarter a bit of an arm wrestle.

Overall we played a great game of football and came out 24 point winners.

Final Score

Bent 5.9.39 to Hallam 2.3.15

It was Friday Night lights for Bentleigh Red this week as we headed to Jack Barker Oval to take on Cheltenham.

We were slightly sloppy early, particularly with our forward entries but were able to clean that up in the second half.

Fletcher Newton lead the way off our half-back line, providing plenty of run and counterattack. Our tackling and defensive pressure was good for 4 quarters in what was a tight contest through out the midfield.

Under Nineteens Blue

We headed out to Doveton and played on the biggest ground in the comp.

We started really well with an early 3 goal lead led by Conor Doherty in the midfield.

The 2nd and 3rd qtrs momentum was owned by Doveton but to our credit, we still had a lead at 3 qtr time.

In the final quarter, we rallied together as a team and ran out the game like the we knew we could and won by 4 goals.

Netball

Saturday 21st May - Round 5

Bentleigh Fives vs Keysborough

In round 5 the Bentleigh fearless fives played Keysborough. While it was a chilly Melbourne afternoon, game conditions were great and we walked away with a win 34 to 32.

Our first quarter was excellent and we jumped out to an early 2 goal lead but Keysborough pegged us back and we finished up by 1. For 2nd and third quarters it was very back and forth but we maintained the 1 point lead throughout.

The fourth quarter was super close again and it could have been anyones game. Thankfully our grit got us over the line with a 2 point win.

Some great effort from the girls all round. Radlow was a beast at the back with so many important intercepts and Mikayla was crashing the rebounds. Sharina and Ash had great chemistry in the front court and resulted in a lot of good shots. Our mid courters in Alice, Deb and Charlotte got a lot of ball into our attack and even a few cheeky intercepts.

Huge thanks to Kate Williamson for filling in, so many great defensive plays made a real difference for us. Our super coach Rika was away on a safari but a massive thanks to Steph for filling in and coaching us with her sound advice and leadership. Well played girls!

Bentleigh Fours Vs Hampton Park

We had a great game on sat! everyone played so well, we had a slow start but came back for the middle of the game! Won the second quarter and got our score even in the third!

Last in the 4th quarter unfortunately but great work from all the girls.

Final score 32-44
