2022 Round 18 Report (Football)

Seniors

Great win by the seniors to overcome all hurdles presented and extreme adversity in what was a tight game until well after the main break.

The degree of resilience shown was extraordinary, as was the pressure and how we responded to that pressure just cannot be understated.

Great all round team effort from every player. The team deserved the win, and the systematic method of the way we did it in the second half, could not have made us anymore proud coming away with a 40 point win.

Dan O’Lauchlin kicked 5 goals and Joe Colaciello 4.

Ben Cooper, Ash Diciero and Nick Wynne all played great games.

Development

With one eyes towards the point end of the season a win against Mordi would have all but secured us a finals berth. With that in mind the boys showed up pumped and ready to go.

This showed with us jumping out the blocks and kicking away early. Our ball movement from the back half was the best it’s been all year and the forwards capitalised. We slowed down in the second to hold a 4 goals lead at half time.

The second half was much the same as the first quarter as we continued to play some really great footy. And we take away with a 11 goal victory. Jimmy Aitken booted 4 to be best on ground, with Mogga, morts and Poulos there abouts as well. Big chance this week against Cranbourne to get a scalp and take some momentum into finals.

Thirds

Round 18 vs Springvale (Home)Ridiculously early start again.

Knew we were in for a tough game when Phil Drummond turned up early. Great start without taking advantage in front of goals early on, jumped them early but

Springy got their act together playing sweeping football that put us under pressure. before being challenged putting us behind at three quarter time.

Dug deep with a super last quarter with the Captain Lochie Kiely going back, standing tall repelling Springvale.

Undermanned with a lot of key important backs out, we were always going to be tested. Luke Wescombe and Zach Patrick key pillars with Jonty Ho just doing everything we asked and needed. Matt Hogan played thru injury with 4 crucial goals. Adam Jaedi and Samuel Coulson aggression at the ball let Springvale know we weren't going to take a backwards step. Held on for a great 3 point win giving us a double chance and playing Skye next week in 1st final.

Bentleigh 8.8.56 vs Springvale 8.5.53 Goals : Hogan 4, Byrnes 2, Scammel 1, Gava 1 Best : Ho, Meredith, Gava, Kiely, Hogan, Jaedi

Highlights: The depleted backline and those who stepped up to support. Outstanding efforts from Jonty Ho , Declan Johnson Phil Drummond, Glenn Richards, Luke Wescombe Zach Patrick, Chris Duncan and Samuel Coulson. Sharpy massive in the runner role being able to deliver messages. Jacko Meredith and Jack Gava combo going from defensive all game to attack in last ten minutes to change the momentum. Matt Hogan getting up and playing on after getting smashed and then rolling the ankle. Match winner. Our physical effort after half time was much better to see.

Onto the finals. Lets go.

Under Nineteens Red

Bentleigh Red played a selfless team first 4 quarter game against Cheltenham at Springvale Reserve.

Was pleased with our ability to stay focused and keep up a constant high work rate for the entire day in what were sunny, warm conditions.

Our spread from stoppage and ball movement was the best it has been all year but our very best is still yet to come!

Under Nineteens Blue

Following a tough loss, we responded really well against a competitive Murrumbeena side. Oscar Lade booted 9 to secure the win in the league goal kicking whilst Tyler Bishop returned from a serious injury to slot 2 goals.

Nick Holten returned to fantastic form whilst Paddy Lukies continued his stellar end to the regular season. We are fully focused on fine tuning our game plan and building chemistry as we head into the finals. Go Dees!
