2022 Round 10 Report (Football and Netball)

Beaten by St Pauls, our boys came out and played some of the best footy we have seen them play all year.

We managed to stay with St Pauls for the best part of three quarters and then the quality and experience of the strong opposition was telling in the last quarter where we were totally overrun.

Having played 2 of the top 3 sides over the last 2 rounds we look forward to the challenge of East Malvern on Saturday. Four quarters of footy will give us every opportunity to chalking up a win.

After a week off we headed back home to take on the local rivals St. Paul’s and we a fairly strong team in our hopes we’re high. Unfortunately for us we played some of the worst football we’ve played all year.

St Paul’s came out fierce and full of run where we looked slow and with no fight. We kept in touch for the first half only trailing by 15 heading in at half time. Knowing we’d played no where near our best we came out ready to take it to them. But St. Paul’s piled on more pressure kicking 2 goals to none in the third giving us a big mountain to climb. We fought back in the last but it was too little too late.

James Rath and Morta were out best on the weekend with morta also snagging two goals to go with Gal, Woosh and Johnno all kicking 1. Only room for improvement against East Malvern this Saturday.

Round 10 vs Keysborough (away)

Unknown quantity before the game. And where would we be after a week off?

We started with some ferocious attack on the footy against larger opponents and had them on the back foot from there.

6 goal opening quarter set the tone for a free running display most of the game. A number of under 19 players stepped up and showed outstanding skill and poise.

Call out to Jacob Clough, Jessi Norman, Matt Canning, Fletcher Newton, Josh Whittle, Anthony Loiacono and Bailey Goff-McDonald from the 19s.

Bentleigh thirds played against Doveton in Round 8. With only 7 players and no fresh legs, the girls ran their hearts out and encouraged each other on court. The vibes were high!

Beck and Sinem did a fantastic job down the defensive end, putting pressure on the shooters and backing up play in the mid court when required. Tash was a strong contender in the mid court, with strong leads and passes to get the ball across into our offensive third. She also did a brilliant job as our third defender! In the absence of Taryn, Naomi and Julia the position of C was shared amongst the group with Sinem, Tash and myself all giving it a go. I congratulate the girls for stepping out of their usual positions and giving it their all.

Steph did an exceptional job at feeding the ball into our shooters with her strong and fast passes. She played an integral role in getting the ball down to our offensive end. Madi held her own in the shooting circle, leaping for any rebounds and keeping her player on their toes. We were lucky to have her precision on game day.

We were so grateful to Catherine who filled in this week and she slid into the team with ease playing wherever we needed her. A big thank you again to Catherine!

With quite a mix up of positions this week and only 7 players the girls gave 110% to the game and left nothing in the tank. Whilst we didn’t manage to bag the win, I’m very proud of everyone’s efforts and feel we played very well as a team. A big thank you also to Liv who coached us in Darcee’s absence.

Well done girls!
